About

Cook what you have before you buy more

Pantrly exists because households buy good food and throw a third of it away, not from carelessness but from not knowing what to make with what is already there. That is a solvable problem, and language models are the first technology that makes solving it genuinely practical.

Why we built it

The problem is in the fridge, not the store

Lena spent six years in grocery and meal-kit operations. She watched households order carefully, put food away neatly, and then throw a third of it away at the end of the week. Not from carelessness. From the same gap every night: there were ingredients in the kitchen and no clear path from them to dinner.

The fix most people reach for is buying more, which makes the waste worse. The real fix is knowing what you can cook right now. But figuring that out from a crowded fridge, a diet, an allergy, and thirty minutes takes the kind of thinking most people do not want to do on a Tuesday evening.

Marcus had spent nine years building vision and language systems that read messy real-world photographs into structured data. The two of them put the problem together. Reasoning about what is on hand, what you can make from it, and what to fetch for the rest is exactly the kind of work modern models are good at. Pantrly is that read done for you, before you open a delivery app.

We are careful about what we claim. Pantrly is general cooking help, not medical or clinical dietary advice. It respects the allergies and restrictions you set, and it still tells you to check the label on packaged food. For a serious medical dietary requirement, talk to a clinician and use this alongside them.

The team

9 people, working on this full time

Five of them are below. Everyone is based in the United States and this is what we do.

Lena Castellano

Co-founder and CEO

Denver, CO

Six years in grocery and meal-kit operations, most of it watching households buy good food and throw a third of it away. She started Pantrly to work the problem from the other end: cook what you already have before you buy more.

Marcus Feld

Co-founder and CTO

Denver, CO

Nine years building vision and language systems, most recently reading messy real-world photographs into structured data. He owns the model routing layer, the ingredient recognition, and the evaluation set every recipe change is measured against.

Sofia Reyes

Head of Culinary

Denver, CO

A trained chef who spent a decade writing recipes for home cooks. She owns recipe quality: whether a suggested meal actually works in a real kitchen, in the time we promised, with the ingredients on hand.

Theo Nakamura

Founding Engineer

Portland, OR

Works on the parts nobody sees: turning a blurry fridge photo into a clean ingredient list, keeping a recipe suggestion inside one request, and the shopping list logic that never adds something you already have.

Grace Okonkwo

Design

Brooklyn, NY

Designs the cook screen, which is the whole product. Her rule: a tired person at 6pm should see a meal they can actually make within four seconds of opening the app, without reading a manual.

The team members and investors named on this page are illustrative for this demo build. Pantrly is a demonstration company and we say so plainly rather than have you find out later. Everything about the product is real: the cook engine, the model routing and the free tier all work as described.
